Are You Wearing The Right Sports Bra?

For some women selecting a bra is an arduous and exhausting task while some of them are flat out disappointed with the shopping experience. And if you’re someone who exercises regularly, then a comfortable sports bra is as important as a well-fitting shoe. What’s baffling is that studies have shown that every 3 out of 4 women are wearing a bra of wrong size. The subsequent results are discomfort, spillage or even some major health complications.

Although it may be a task to find that one bra that is perfect for you, once you’ve found it, I assure you, it’ll be worth it. With so many different aspects that should be considered before you buy the right sports bra, it can be a tricky science. Hence we’ve simplified it for you in 3 easy steps:

Get Fitted

It’s seen that majority of the women are wearing the wrong size bra. Just as your other garments, bras also need to be sized up as per your needs. Instead of eyeballing, you should get measured at either at any store or you can do it for yourself. A common mistake that can be seen is women buy a larger band and smaller cup than they actually need. The band in the sports bra is the major source to provide you comfort. It should be snugger as compared to your regular bra and sit flat against your skin. Whereas the smaller cups give the illusion of more support because they make everything look more compact and tight but can be the major cause of chafing and spillage.

If you decide to measure yourself, you can refer our sports bra size chart to help you find the perfect sports bra for you.

Your Perfect Sports Bra Size

While it’s not rocket science, but selecting the perfect bra according to your size can get a bit tricky. Our sports bra size chart can help you find your perfect size. Since every woman’s body is different you may need a bit of altercations and fine-tuning until you find the perfect one for your body.

Band Size

While measuring, place the measuring tape around the rib cage, directly under the bust. The measuring tape should be levelled and snug. Note the measurement in inches and round it off to the nearest whole number. This is your under bust size. Now, if the number is even add 4 inches to it, if it’s odd add 5 inches to it.

For e.g. 26.5 inches will round off to 27. Hence 27+5 = 32 which is your band size.

Bust Size

Place the measuring tape over the fullest part of your bust. Note the measurement in inches and round it off to the nearest whole number. This is your over bust size.

Cup Size

To calculate the cup size, subtract the band size from the bust size.

Example: Bust = 34 inches, Band= 32 inches, Cup Size= 34-32= 2 inches. That’s a 32B!

Cup Sizes:

A- 1 Inch

B- 2 Inches

C- 3 Inches

D- 4 Inches

Sports Bra Features

Band- As the foundation and major source of support of the bra, the band should lay flat against your rib’cage and fit snugger than your normal bra.

Straps- The straps should feel comfortable and secure without digging into your shoulders. They should provide minimal stretch to reduce the movement.

Cups- The cups should be fully covering your breasts and not be pouring out of the top. The fabric should be smooth without any wrinkles.

The sports bra that you should choose also depends on the intensity of the activity that you’re planning to do. You don’t need a high compression bra for activities such as walking, Yoga or Pilates.
